Inside The Rubber Group’s Laconia, NH Manufacturing Facility

The Rubber Group’s Laconia, NH facility runs a fully integrated custom rubber manufacturing operation including: compound milling, metal stamping, insert prep, rubber molding, finishing, and final quality inspection all under one roof. Stamp dies are designed and built on site, compound is milled to job-specific prep weights on the floor, and tooling fabrication and repair stay in house. The result is a manufacturing environment where process variables are controlled from raw material to finished part, with the capability to handle close-tolerance insert work across aerospace and defense, transportation, electrical T&D, fluid and process control, medical, and energy markets.

With mission critical components being manufactured at the Laconia facility, The Rubber Group holds stringent, company-wide credentials including NQA’s AS9100 series of standards, ITAR compliance, and CMMC Level 1 certification.

Metal Stamping and Insert Preparation at The Rubber Group’s Laconia, NH Facility

Watch this brief video about our in-house metal stamping.

The Rubber Group designs and builds its own stamping dies in house, running three stamp presses at the Laconia facility with capacity to scale beyond the current 40-hour weekly runtime. For a manufacturer producing rubber components with steel inserts, owning that tooling capability in house means shorter lead times, direct process control, and no dependency on outside vendors for die fabrication or repair.

The full insert-to-mold sequence — stamping, ultrasonic cleaning, tumble blasting, iron phosphate treatment, and adhesive application — runs entirely within the Laconia facility. That integration is what keeps the steel side of a molded component on the same production timeline as the rubber side.

For a custom rubber manufacturer running a wide product mix with in-house stamp dies and custom mold components, tooling capability is a production dependency. When a die needs repair or a mold component needs to be fabricated, waiting on an outside vendor can tack on weeks to the lead time. The Rubber Group’s Laconia facility has a full-service tool room running CNC machining centers, lathes, and multiple grinding operations to keep tooling changes in house and jobs on schedule.

The tool room supports the entire Laconia operation: die making and repair for the metal stamping presses, mold component fabrication, and general tool maintenance across the production floor.

This 30 second video shows how The Rubber Group can turn around tooling changes.

Rubber Compound Milling and Extrusion at The Rubber Group’s Laconia, NH Facility

Learn more about rubber compound milling and extrusion in less than one minute.

Prep weight accuracy is a direct factor in how rubber fills a mold under pressure. Too much or too little and the part either over-fills or under-fills the cavity, both outcomes costing time and material. At The Rubber Group’s Laconia facility, compound prep happens on the floor, not off site, giving the molding operation direct control over the variable that starts every production cycle.

The Rubber Group operators can produce preforms in rope, slab, or ring form depending on what each mold geometry requires, a range that supports the facility’s wide product mix across high-volume molding and custom work. Keeping milling and extrusion in house means prepped material is matched to the job specification rather than sourced to a standard form that approximates it.

Rubber Molding at The Rubber Group’s Laconia, NH Facility

Rubber molding at The Rubber Group’s Laconia, NH facility runs across two distinct production modes: high-volume lines built for throughput and consistency, and a custom line built for the work that demands experienced operators. Cell configurations, automated sprue removal, and batch die trimming keep the high-volume side efficient. The custom line takes on what the high-volume side cannot — smaller components with metal inserts where operators skillfully place preforms by hand, cavity by cavity, before the mold closes.

This sets The Rubber Group’s Laconia facility apart from other manufacturers that are not set up or willing to take on close-tolerance, labor-intensive work.

Quality Inspection and Non-Contact Measurement at The Rubber Group’s Laconia, NH Facility

See how our final inspection ensures product compliance.

Final inspection at The Rubber Group’s Laconia, NH facility is built around what each customer requires. The process isn’t standardized to a baseline but rather configured with certifications, shipment documentation, and quality records handled in house before any part leaves the floor.

A key capability in the quality lab is non-contact optical measurement. This is vital for buyers in aerospace, transportation, and other performance driven markets where dimensional accuracy on rubber components is a compliance requirement. Traditional contact measurement deforms rubber under pressure, producing unreliable readings. Optical measurement eliminates that variable entirely, giving customers confidence that the dimensions on the inspection record match the part in the shipment.
